A look back at some of the highlights that defined our year.
With the new year already in full swing, we’re taking a moment to look back on the remarkable year we had in 2024. At Certified Origins, we’re proud of the milestones we achieved thanks to our valuable team and partners.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights that defined our year.
Responsible Energy with ENEL
Our ongoing commitment to reducing reliance on external and non-renewable energy sources took center stage in 2024. Key initiatives included expanding renewable energy capacity at our bottling plant in Italy with solar panels and utilizing by-products from olive production for heating. These efforts and more earned us the Enel Energia Green Kit, with an official certification to follow in March 2026. Looking ahead in 2025, we’ve set another significant milestone: 100% of the external electricity supply in our Italian production will come from renewable sources, including hydroelectric and photovoltaic energy.

Promoting culinary traditions with Hokol Vuh
In February, we renewed our sponsorship of Hokol Vuh, a philanthropic event promoting the sustainable development and well-being of communities in the Yucatan Peninsula. The event brought together 18 world-renowned chefs from around the globe, offering them an immersive experience in Mayan culture to deepen their culinary knowledge and foster appreciation for the region’s rich traditions. Led by Norma Brito and our Mexico team, the effort reflects our commitment to the social value of food and a deep respect for local culture.

Engaging with Industry Leaders at PLMA
In July, we participated in PLMA’s (Private Label Manufacturers Association) 2024 World of Private Label International Trade Show in Amsterdam, reconnecting with colleagues from the industry. The event provided an invaluable opportunity to meet top sector experts, and share our vision for good food. Later in November, we attended the PLMA show in Chicago, one of the major private-label trade shows in North America, featuring over 1,700 exhibitors from 60 countries. Both events allowed us to showcase our commitment to quality and innovation while strengthening relationships with new and existing partners. We’re excited to continue this journey by participating in PLMA’s events again in 2025.

Exploring the origins of food with Global Retail Brands
In September, in collaboration with Global Retail Brands Magazine, we released the special print issue “Exploring the Origins of Food”. Following the success of our 2023 edition on Extra Virgin Olive Oil, we were delighted to work on this second edition, which includes contributions from IVY League university professors, researchers, producers, and sustainability experts, each offering their unique perspectives on the past, present, and future of our food. “Exploring the Origins of Food” aims to inspire businesses to engage more deeply with the source of their ingredients while providing tools and resources to navigate the challenges of building a more transparent, responsible food system.

“Al Nocciolo” podcast
In September, Certified Origins also launched “Al Nocciolo”, a podcast dedicated to Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), and the importance of the origin of what we eat. Produced with Chora Media, the four-episode series features expert gastronomes exploring EVOO production from field to shelf. This project emphasizes our dedication to sharing knowledge about the origin of food.

Partnering for Conservation with ClimatePartner
In October, we joined ClimatePartner for a day of environmental restoration at Campo dei Fiori Regional Park in Italy. Guided by forestry experts, we witnessed the impacts of climate change firsthand and participated in efforts to restore areas affected by extreme natural events. This collaboration is part of a broader initiative to reduce and compensate for emissions tied to the Bellucci EVOO brand. During the day, our team also had the opportunity to learn from an expert at the GV Schiaparelli Observatory, who shared scientific evidence regarding the effects of climate change in the Varese region, located in northern Italy.

Food and Culture at Dumbo Film Festival
In October, as proud supporters of the Dumbo Film Festival in Brooklyn, an annual event showcasing some of the best independent films, we sponsored the “Flavors of Authenticity” documentary block, developed with Daniele Ragusa, Davide Iacono and Marta Leocata. The event celebrated food traceability, sustainability, and cultural heritage. Three documentaries were screened, bringing together filmmakers, food experts, and enthusiasts passionate about the connection between what we eat and where it comes from.

Protecting Olive Trees with GEPEC
In November, we launched a partnership with GEPEC-EdC, one of the oldest environmental NGOs in Catalonia, to preserve the Monumental Olive Groves Reserve in Terres de l’Ebre, Spain. The invaluable program aims to protect ancient trees that are often neglected, damaged, or sold as ornamental plants, while also raising awareness on the issue through educational and training initiatives. This is fundamental for the environment, landscape, and biodiversity of one of the world’s most critical regions for Extra Virgin Olive Oil production.

Representing Italy at FHC Shanghai
In November, invited by the Italian Trade Agency, we attended the FHC Shanghai Global Food Trade Show to showcase the latest market and commercial trends for Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil and PGI/PDO products. Alessandro Ingravalle, our Managing Director of Certified Origins Asia trade, shared insights into production areas, market trends, and opportunities in the Chinese market to an audience of both international and local buyers and food experts.

Conclusions
2024 was a year of growth and meaningful partnerships for Certified Origins. Looking ahead to 2025, we’re focused on strengthening our commitment to tradition, transparency, and responsibly sourced ingredients. Stay tuned.
